Why Do Google Ads Call Extensions Not Work?

Google Ads call extensions don’t work for many advertisers and so many people wonder why. In this video, we detail why Google Ads call extensions may not be working for you. Watch now!

My Ad Rank is perfect. Okay, so it looks like it's 10 out of 10. My position is number one for your ads. I have used call extensions before and always worked. I seem to have issues this time but cannot figure it out. It was not triggered even once. It had no impressions across multiple areas. I presume that you are talking about different locations. All other extensions are triggered, but not the call extension. If I remove other extensions to have a higher chance of my call extension showing, then it still won't show. The ad will simply have no extensions at all. If I increase the call with a bid optimizer by even 100%, it still won't show. I'm literally stuck. Yeah, you've been outranked. As simple as that. So your Ad Rank could be ten out of ten. That's the quality score. Ad Rank is a combination of quality score, expected click-through rate, and the landing page experience. If your competitors have got a good Ad Rank as well, let's say your Ad Rank is 58 and theirs is 56 or 57, but their bids are very high, they will outrank you.

So without knowing your niche and every niche is competitive nowadays, right? There's no such thing as there’s no competition in Google. Everything you run there will be competition, which is good because we know that competition, other competitors are making money from it, and otherwise, they won't be spending money. My position is number one doesn't mean anything because if your ads aren't triggered, you will not know what your number is. So that doesn't help either. But my gut feeling is that your bid needs to be a lot more. You might need to increase your bids by five times and see what happens. Don’t be scared by so let’s say your maximum bids are $10. Make it $50. This does not mean that Google is going to charge you $50.

Unless your competitors are being charged 49.99%. You will only pay $0.01 more than the second Ad Ranked advertiser and then you will know, yes, I need to bid high. So you may get a click, which is expensive, but at least you will know that you need to bid a lot more. If you are not getting any impressions with 100% more bids, then increase it. Keep on increasing until it starts to run or go broad match, and get cheaper clicks, although you might get some irrelevant clicks. Be very aggressive in the search terms. As soon as you see people start coming through, put them in as negative keywords at the account level. So you start building up your negative keyword list as well. So fail fast, get up quickly and keep going.
