What are your tips for optimizing eCommerce for Black Friday, both before and during the event? Well, during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which together constitute a four-day window, there isn't much you can do. The key is to ensure that all your building blocks are in place well before the event. One of my close friends, Scott Cunningham from @MerchantMastery is particularly adept at this, and he recommends having everything ready by no later than the 1st of October.
From there, you can start building up your remarketing audiences. The strategy he employs, and that I also endorse, is to run campaigns for cold audiences in October and November or the middle of November, and then switch to a larger audience in the middle of November. The reason for this is that you need to have an audience in order to effectively remarket your products or services.
Once you have built your audience, you can then focus aggressively on remarketing campaigns during the holiday season. While I'm not sure of the exact date when Scott starts his remarketing campaign, I know that he places a great emphasis on it during the holiday season. If you're interested in learning more about Scott's approach, his website is Merchantmastery.com, and I strongly recommend reaching out to him.
